  • Do you find yourself captivated by the beauty of snow-capped peaks? Winter in the mountains is a truly special time, one that presents unique challenges and rewards for mountaineers. If you are interested in exploring this breathtaking terrain, Ascension Adventures is here to guide you every step of the way.
  • We can teach you everything you need to know to safely navigate snowy and icy mountains, from using an ice axe and crampons to adapting your navigation skills in a white-out. We will also share invaluable tips on how to stay warm, dry, and happy in Scottish winter.
  • Winter mountaineering requires a higher level of fitness than hill walking, as days can be over 8 hours long and involve ascending and descending 3,000 feet/1,000 meters, with a 10kg rucksack on, in crampons. However, with our guidance, you will gain a solid foundation in winter mountaineering, with full days out summiting finest peaks, weather permitting.
  • Our comprehensive course covers a range of topics, including: winter hazards, navigation, avalanche forecast and avoidance, winter kit, movement skills in snowy and icy terrain, self-arrests, decision-making, emergency procedures, winter anchors, winter rope work, food and drink, planning your winter journey.
