  • Ascension Adventures offers a unique opportunity to explore the mountains during the winter season. With its tricky challenges and unmatched rewards, a winter adventure promises a truly memorable experience. Our guided ascents cover all major peaks in Scotland, from the popular Munros to the more remote locations. We particularly love guiding in the Nevis Range, Cairngorms, and Glencoe and include many classic mountaineering routes, for example, the gullies, Ledge Route, or Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis.
  • While the Scottish Highlands provide the most reliable conditions, we also offer classic routes in Snowdonia and the Lake District, weather permitting.
  • All the activities featured in our summer mountaineering and hiking programs can be enjoyed in the winter months, including the Wainwrights, the Munros, and the National Three Peaks.
  • Winter ascents are physically demanding, and participants need to have a high level of hillwalking fitness. You should be able to spend up to 8 hours walking and climbing on steep, snowy, and icy terrain in the cold. The days often involve 3,000ft/1,000m of ascent and descent in crampons, and you will need to carry a rucksack of up to 10kg, containing spare clothing, lunch, and gear. However, the sense of achievement when you reach the summit is truly unforgettable.
  • If you are looking to experience winter mountaineering for the first time, we offer essential winter skills tuition to get you started. Those who have already tackled winter terrain will be able to develop their capabilities and climb some winter routes. If you have a specific goal in mind, for example, climb Monte Rosa or Mont Blanc, we can tailor the course to prepare you for your adventure.
  • As the weather can be unpredictable, we always plan our activities with this in mind, allowing plenty of time to organise and undertake each day’s challenge.
